Connect Academy is centre that provides education to students with learning disabilities and for slow learners. Connect's aim is to empower children with knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable them to face personal and professional challenges with confidence. Our teaching program is to help these children go beyond their learning disabilities, complete their education and grow into positive & contributing citizens.

  • NIOS Board: Pre-NIOS levels (1 to 9), 10th NIOS.

The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS), an autonomous organization in pursuance of National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India. It is basically a central government recognized board of education.

Recharge centre at WHIS comprises of Psychologists who are uniquely qualified members of the organization that support students-ability to learn and teachers-ability to teach. They apply expertise in mental health, learning, and behavior to help children and youth succeed academically, socially, behaviorally, and emotionally. School psychologists work as partners with families, teachers, school administrators, and other professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that strengthen connections between home, school, and the community.

LD: A learning disability is a neurological condition that interferes with an individual’s ability to store, process, or produce information.

Learning disabilities can affect one’s ability to read, write, speak, spell, compute math, reason and also affect an individual’s attention, memory, coordination, social skills and emotional maturity.


  • Dyslexia – disorder affecting reading
  • Dysgraphia – disorder affecting handwriting
  • Dyscalculia – disorder affecting mathematical reasoning & calculations.


  • Early Diagnosis with early intervention
  • Regular Therapy. (OT, PT, ST, BM)

  • Normal Schooling with Remedial Education or NIOS Schooling

  • Filling up the basic information form primary interaction with Sr. clinical Psychologist
  • If parents are ready for psychological assessment, appointment is fixing with them.
  • First day - Case history of Parents (both are required) and Curriculum based test administration.
  • Then next day administration of IQ testing and other testing (if required)
  • Report Discussion and counseling session.

After testing if the child is diagnosed with learning difficulty then as per school's criteria admission is given.

IQ testing- WISC, BKT, SFBT, etc. CBT-Curriculum based test, DST for LD, Checklists for ADHD, Autism, ADD & LD.

Speech, Occupational & Physiotherapy

  • Speech therapy

Speech-language pathology is a field of expertise that specializes in the evaluation and treatment of communication disorders, cognition, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders Language-based learning disabilities are problems with age-appropriate reading, spelling, and/or writing. In case of slow learners or learning disabilities speech pathologists are trained in the following areas that affect learning to read, spell and write:

• Oral language comprehension and use.
• Phonological processing, including phonemic awareness.
• Articulation (speech sound production)
• Letter/sound knowledge
• Word-finding difficulties
• Emergent metalinguistic awareness
• Narrative discourse
• Short-term memory

The therapist consults and collaborates with teachers to develop the use of strategies and techniques in the classroom set up also.

  • Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy (OT) treatment focuses on helping people with a physical, sensory, or cognitive disability be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives. OT can help kids with various needs improve their cognitive, physical, sensory, and motor skills and enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. The main benefit of occupational therapy is the mastery of skills that help children develop, recover, or maintain daily living skills. The goal of an occupational therapist is to help individuals have independent, productive and satisfying lives.

OTs work with children on the following skills:

• Sensory integration
• Endurance
• Fine motor skills
• Hand function
• Visual-spatial awareness
• Hand-eye coordination
• Attention
• Social skills
• Body awareness
• Occupational therapists often educate parents and teachers on the best techniques to ensure children participate in learning, self-care, and play tasks.

  • Physiotherapy

A physiotherapist is trained to assess movement and physical development. Therapist support to improve mobility and mobility skills to help your child reach the highest level of independence. Physiotherapeutic exercises and treatment will help kids to maintain balance and perform more coordinated activities with less effort and short time at school and at home. Children with learning difficulties may face problems with balance, coordination, strength, tone, stability and motor and sensory delays. They might also show deficits with attention and overall gross and fine motor skills required during a child's life.

Special education is specially designed instructions, support, and services provided to students with an identified disability requiring an individually designed instructional program to meet their unique learning needs.

Process of giving special education: Observation of child-educational assessment-preparing IEP-teaching as per program-continuous assessment-monitoring child’s progress on all criteria (academics, emotional, social, behavior)-seek help of professionals if needed-parent awareness.

Brain gym is a series of simple and enjoyable movements that we use with our students in Educational Kinesiology (Edu-K) to enhance students experience of whole –brain learning. The main focus in brain gym is on development of three dimensions that is the midline movements, lengthening activities, energy exercises and deeping attitudes. In connect academy we take brain gym activities daily in the assembly, transitional period and as a therapy session.

Brain gym helps in improving: Reading skills (reading, reading comprehension), Thinking skills (organization skills, spelling, math), Writing skills (eye-hand coordination creative writing), Self-awareness skills (clear listening and speaking self- concept whole-body coordination for sports and play), Home study skills (memory and abstract thinking creative thinking speed reading test taking)

This program contains activities for developing different developmental skills and different teaching methods for academic concepts on an individual need basis.
